A couple of months ago, a VP Human Resources interviewed me to work with their Organizational Development Director on a project using the Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI®). During the conversation, he made a comment, “I hope you are not one of those consultants who push multiple assessments. We are looking for someone who will come in and do the HBDI for us and nothing else.”
This was an easy answer for me because while I am certified to administer and deliver multiple assessments, they were asking me about my sweet spot: the HBDI®. Additionally, my personal opinion is that you don’t assess unless you have a good idea of what you want to measure and accomplish.
That being said, there are many reasons for using multiple assessments.
The Case for More Than One Assessment
This Wednesday, I have been invited to be a guest panelist by HBDI on the topic of Key Assessment Instruments: What You Need to Know. The objectives of the webinar are:
- How different assessments compare
- What you are and should/could be measuring
- How to get the most benefit from your investments
The other panelist is John Bennett, Assistant Professor of Behavioral Science, Director of MS in Coaching and Associate Director of MS in Organization Development, McColl School of Business, Queens University of Charlotte.
John will be discussing the Workplace Big Five, Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI) and FIRO-B® and I will be addressing the Strong Interest Inventory (SII) and the Thomas Kilmann Conflict Instrument (TKI). Both of us have experience with integrating these assessments with the HBDI in executive coaching and team development situations.
The webinar is exclusively for certified HBDI® practitioners as part of their continuing individual technical development. You can register for the HBDI® webinar through this link Key Assessment Instruments: What You Need to Know or by going to the HBDI® website. If you are unable to attend, recordings will be available through the HBDI practitioner’s area.
