Finding My Way Through the Blog Maze

Web Hosting. Bluehost.com is my choice. I have worked with many website providers and to date, this is the best yet. They offer all the products I need to host this site, and service is first rate. I have the option to email or call tech support 24/7. I have not been bashful about picking up the phone and in every case, the technical support has solved my problem. I have other sites who are hosted with other companies, I plan to move them when their contract expires.

Here are some quick links:

  • Helpdesk takes you to the main screen at Bluehost.com.
  • Tell me more outlines all the features that are included in the hosting accounts. There is a demo you can test drive.
  • Sign Up Now Page will take you through the process to make this your new hosting choice.

The Thesis Theme for WordPress is theme I am using for this blog. There are a lot of free WordPress themes you can get, but I kept running across Chris Pearson’s name with rave reviews. I fancy myself a bit of a techy girl. My knowledge of blogging is on the upward learning curve, and I only scratch the surface on HTML and PHP. His thesis-hooks simplifies things immensely. Learn more about how much you can do with this theme by visiting the Thesis Theme for WordPress website and watch the video.

The Thesis Theme allows you to do WordPress updates with very little reprogramming. There is an extensive forum area where the other users are very helpful if you run into trouble.

Autoresponders and Email Service Provider. Feedblitz is the choice I made for RSS Feeds and Newsletter service. I did the research, looking at Constant Contact, iContact and a host of other providers. I went to a number of reputable blogs such as Seth’s Blog, to see what service they were using to communicate with their readers.

I like Feedblitz because it is one stop shopping. I don’t have to figure out which of the many plug-ins that WordPress offers to maximize with the other services. I can customize the newsletter if I want to. And the price is right, not free, but much less than other paying services. And if Seth uses it, it can’t be all that bad. No pressure, Seth.

Affiliate Ads. I do use affiliate ads on this site for two reasons – I use the product personally and am satisfied with the results or the ad is intended to supplement or support a thought or idea. There is a small, I do mean small, benefit to me if you should choose to purchase the services or product.
