Browsing through the Fall 2008 Issue of HR Now, I applaud The “Ten Demandments” written by Dr. William Moskal. His fifth demandment: The Platinum Rule ~ Treat others the way they would like to be treated ~ is a more contemporary view of working in today’s world.

The Golden Rule is “me” centered; believing that everyone’s value system is the same as your own. It is the lazy person’s way to management and leadership.

To develop stronger relationship skills, regardless of with managers or peers, force yourself to step out of your comfort zone and candidly assess how others needs can be met.  Listening to what they say and take note of their nonverbal cues. These clues will provide more insight into what will engage them.
